Pig iron DSTU 3133-95 (GOST 805-95) - primary iron alloy, smelted in a blast furnace and used (in liquid or solid form) for processing (redistribution) into steel, mainly in open-hearth furnaces or oxygen converters. From other types of metal produced in blast furnaces (foundries and mirror cast iron, ferrosilicon and ferromanganese), pig iron is characterized by a low content of Si and Mn (no more than 1.75% each). Pig iron intended for oxygen-converter processing, has narrower limits of fluctuations in chemical composition for Si, Mn and S. High-quality pig iron is also smelted, which is characterized by a low P content (0.020-0.060%) and S (0.015-0.025%).

Pig iron must be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this standard and technical
documentation approved in accordance with the established procedure.
Pig iron is produced in ingots without crimps, with one or two crimps.
The thickness of the pig at the point of pinching should not exceed 50 mm.
The mass of pigs should be no more than 45 kg. It is allowed to produce pigs weighing no more than 55 kg for the needs of the national economy.
Weight of pig iron grades PL1 for the needs of the national economy and all grades of cast iron when applying the standard in contractual legal frameworks
relations without pinch should be no more than 18 kg, with one pinch - 30 kg, with two pinch - 45 kg.
The amount of fight in cast iron should not exceed 2% of the mass of the batch. Pieces weighing no more than 2 kg are classified as combat.
There should be no slag residues or external loose contamination on the surface of the pigs.
A deposit of lime, graphite and other components of the mixture for spraying molds that do not affect the quality of cast iron is allowed.
Ultimate cast iron PL1 must be manufactured indicating the mass fraction of carbon.
At the consumer's request, pig iron PL1 is produced with a mass fraction of carbon of 4.0-4.5%.
Pig iron must be produced with a copper mass fraction of no more than 0.3%.
At the request of the consumer, in pig iron smelted from copper-containing ores, the mass mass is additionally determined
the share of copper is indicated in the quality document.
At the request of the consumer, pig iron PL1 for the production of castings from nodular cast iron and ductile cast iron
must be manufactured with a mass fraction of chromium up to 0.04%, high-quality pig iron for the production of piston rings
must be manufactured with a mass fraction of manganese up to 0.3% and chromium up to 0.2%.
At the consumer's request, high-quality pig iron and pig iron are produced with a mass fraction of manganese
more than 1.5%, pig iron - more than 2.0%.
At the request of the consumer, pig iron is produced with a mass fraction of sulfur up to 0.06%.
To check the quality of the surface, 10 pigs are selected from different places from a batch of up to 20 tons and 20 pigs from a batch over 20 tons.
To determine the chemical composition of pig iron, at least three pigs from a batch of up to 20 tons and six pigs from a batch of over 20 tons are selected from different places.
