Copper phosphorous

Phosphorous copper is a special phosphorous alloy based on copper. This alloy contains 8.0-9.5% phosphorus, the total content of phosphorus and copper is 99.5%, there is also a small proportion of impurities.

The alloy has a number of specific advantages that allow this material to be widely used for production purposes:
- as a deoxidizer when melting copper and brass, as well as a number of other copper alloys; when smelting copper from cathodes at non-ferrous metal processing plants, the alloy is introduced into the melt at the rate of 0.10-0.15% P;
- as an alloying element in the production of P-containing copper alloys, of which the most important are deformable tin-phosphorus bronzes of the type BrOF 6.5-0.15, as well as casting bronzes containing up to 1% P; deformable bronzes of the specified type contain up to 0.4% P;
- as the main component of solders (PMF 7, PMF 9, P 14), their P content is from 3 to 10%;
- as a silumin modifier when casting products from hypoeutectic silumins, for example, cylinder blocks of internal combustion engines; when casting such products, 0.1-0.2%, and sometimes more, copper-phosphorus alloy is introduced to improve the properties of the casting.
